When I was reading through the novel, The Maze Runner by James Dashner, I found the setting very similar to, Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Many of the character in both books are parallels to each other. For example, Thomas is an obvious parallel to Ralph, one of the characters in Golding's book. Both characters are the leader and protagonist in the books and are key to the plot. Another pair I find similar is Chuck and Piggy. These two characters are almost identical even their character features. Both boys are chubby, smart, not that athletic, and are the holders of innocence in the books. In Lord of the Flies, Piggy is killed when a rock flies down a mountain side and hits him off a cliff to his ultimate doom, thus taking the innocence out of the picture. In The Maze Runner, Chuck is killed by Gally, the comparison to Jack in LOTF, taking away the always needed presence of innocence. Not only are the character alike, but the plot is also. In each book a group boys are stuck in a situation where they must find a way off an island or out of a maze. I thought they were so close I researched it, and it turns out James Dashner's inspiration for The Maze Runner was Lord of the Flies. Definitely explains the similarities.
